Description
Cyber threats are increasingly sophisticated, transnational, and persistent—posing significant risks to research and education infrastructures worldwide. At TNC25, the concept of the Security Policy Alliance (SPA) was introduced to CEOs as a strategic initiative to unite NRENs in a global alliance for cybersecurity policy alignment, intelligence sharing, and collective resilience.
The NREN community is now a frequent target for cybercriminals and state‑sponsored actors. While operational cooperation exists, there is currently no strategic‑level coordination to address systemic, cross‑border risks. The SPA aims to fill this gap by creating a trusted framework for policy harmonisation, shared situational awareness, and coordinated incident response.
In this session, we will explore key themes in NREN cybersecurity and strategic alignment, highlighting both current challenges and areas for improvement. You will hear from NREN leaders about the risks they are facing, what strategic alignment can achieve, and why collaboration is essential in an era of rising geopolitical tension. You will also meet the emerging SPA Steering Group and learn how your NREN can get involved.
This session is designed for CEOs, CTOs, security leads, and policy makers from NRENs, RRENs, and related research and education organisations. It is equally relevant for technical experts, and those engaged in cybersecurity strategy and governance:
For NREN leaders: an opportunity to shape the future of global cybersecurity collaboration.
For technical experts: an understanding of how strategic choices will influence operational practices and resilience.
For risk, governance, and policy specialists: a clear view of the SPA’s shared principles, governance model, and coordinated risk approach.
The SPA wants to hear from all of you. Share your perspectives and help influence our direction as we build a trusted, inclusive, and globally coordinated approach to cybersecurity.
What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?
• Strategic Insight: Understand the global threat landscape and why individual NRENs cannot tackle these challenges alone.
• Influence and Collaborate: Share your perspectives, influence the direction of the SPA, and help us address the major issues collectively and collaboratively.
• Engagement Opportunities: Discover how your NREN can join the SPA, contribute expertise, and benefit from this strategic initiative.
• Networking: Connect with NREN leaders shaping the future of cybersecurity collaboration.
