Description

NRENs sit at the heart of global innovation, yet we often struggle to articulate that value to the technical specialists we need most. Drawing on my experience at Google, Uber, and GSMA, this 90-minute BoF is a professional masterclass designed to bridge the gap between corporate recruitment efficiency and the collaborative mission of the R&E sector.

This session is a practical workshop for hiring managers and team leads to move beyond reactive hiring and adopt proactive, engagement-led strategies. We will focus on:

The Global Talent Landscape: A professional analysis of the mechanics used by major tech organisations to identify specialised talent, and how NRENs can increase their visibility by aligning with the evolving aspirations of high-tier candidates.

Purpose-Led Storytelling: Moving beyond salary-centric competition by effectively communicating the societal impact of NRENs. We will discuss how to frame our role in global research as a primary differentiator to attract those seeking mission-driven work.

Competing on an NREN Budget: Tactical strategies for winning talent when you cannot match corporate salary scales. We will explore the "Total Value Proposition"—including culture, research proximity, and long-term stability—that makes NRENs a unique destination.

Specialised Talent Intelligence: A deep dive into modern sourcing methods required to find niche technical profiles (such as Cloud Architects or Security Specialists). We will discuss how to leverage data and proactive outreach to identify specialists not active on traditional job boards.

The Candidate Journey Audit: A collaborative look at the technical and administrative friction points in typical hiring processes. We will discuss how to streamline engagement and improve the "candidate experience" to ensure elite specialists remain in the recruitment funnel.

Building a Sustainable Pipeline: Moving from reactive hiring to proactive pipeline development. We will explore how to identify talent early and maintain long-term engagement with candidates, ensuring your organisation is the first choice for specialists ready for their next mission.

What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?

Attendees will leave with a sophisticated toolkit for purpose-led recruitment and a new framework for technical storytelling. They will gain practical strategies for building an internal talent pipeline on an NREN budget and the professional "talent intelligence" methods needed to secure niche specialists for mission-critical projects.
