Description
To strengthen global collaboration, we first need to identify and share the engagement mechanisms that make it possible and then scale these collaborations across regions and around the globe. This BoF session acknowledges the previous TNC BoFs that have explored member engagement from a marketing and dissemination perspective, showcasing what works in communicating with and involving members and end users. Using that valuable experience as a foundation, this session shifts the focus to the strategic level of (N)REN and stakeholder engagement. It brings together (N)REN engagement teams, leadership and thematic working groups to exchange experiences on how (N)RENs collaborate with each other and support their wider communities across domains. The session will highlight regional approaches to sustaining thematic communities, governance models, and engagement mechanisms that enable collaboration between networks, institutions, researchers and beyond. Drawing on concrete experiences across areas such as AI, Trust & Identity, Cloud, service development and more, the BoF lightning talks will lead into an interactive discussion with the audience to explore replicable practices, shared challenges, and how a more coordinated approach could enhance knowledge-sharing across regions. Discussions will also consider how today’s many bilateral (N)REN conversations could evolve into multilateral coordinated cooperation, including the potential creation of a permanent cross-regional strategic engagement group.
What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?
Participants will gain insight into how different (N)RENs approach stakeholder and organisational engagement at a strategic level—beyond member-oriented activities—to better understand which engagement practices can be adapted and reused across global regions. The session will offer examples of how regional experiences can help others navigate similar challenges and how mapping existing relationships can support clearer collaboration paths. Attendees will explore opportunities to shift from bilateral (N)REN exchanges to more coordinated multilateral collaboration and will consider the value of forming an ongoing permanent cross-regional engagement community or working group. This group could support continued knowledge-sharing, alignment of priorities between regions, and joint global initiatives throughout the year, helping regions benefit from each other’s models, insights, and lessons learned.
