Description
We from Tampere University invite participants to experience accessibility through an unplugged, discussion‑driven session based on the Accessibility Points created by TACCU – Tampere Accessibility Unit. These Accessibility Points were designed to raise awareness and offer hands‑on encounters with different accessibility tools. For this Community Hub session, we are bringing the Observing Accessibility Point, where participants can try various accessibility‑related tools such as simulation glasses that simulate different visual disabilities and an AI‑based Be My Eyes–type solution.
In this unplugged session, the focus is on sharing experiences, discussing impressions from trying the tools, and reflecting together on how such experiential methods can support accessibility teaching and awareness‑building in research and education communities. The session offers a low‑threshold opportunity to personally experience accessibility‑related challenges and discuss accessibility in a collaborative, conversational setting.
What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?
The TNC audience will take away a clearer understanding of accessibility and what it can mean in practice. By briefly experiencing what different disabilities might feel like through hands‑on tools, participants gain an embodied sense of the challenges many people face. This helps build empathy and supports a more nuanced awareness of accessibility in their own work and communities.
