Description

Information Influencing and Thinking – It's About You
Cognitive Security and Digital Sisu

The TNC26 theme "Digital Sisu" embodies inner strength, tenacity, determination, and courage when facing adversity. But what happens when the adversity isn't visible, but an invisible assault on the thinking that guides our decisions?

we understand technical security deeply, but information security must include our own thinking. In an increasingly uncertain world where sovereignty and sustainability define our challenges, cognitive security is foundational to both.

Information technologies now dominate our landscape. We've evolved from "going online" to being online everywhere, always. Social media algorithms, personalized content, and generative AI have created an attention economy exploiting our cognitive vulnerabilities on an industrial scale. We evolved to gather, process, and share information—but not for today's digital flood. The cognitive shortcuts and biases that once helped us survive now make us vulnerable.

Information influence extends beyond national security and fake news. Everyone is targeted: individual citizens, electoral systems, educational and research networks. Universities and research communities play critical roles in creating the knowledge infrastructure underlying our shared worldviews. Cognitive security is expevially vital in these institutions and networks.

This presentation examines how we got here, why it works, and what we can do. You'll understand the historical path that have lead here, understand our vulnerabilities and gain concrete tools for protecting your thinking—thereby protecting your community and society.

What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?

This presentation is intended for a wide audience of TNC26 visitors. Aimed at everyone living in the digital information environment of today, the presentation will give a deep understanding of how and why we got here, as well as concrete tips on how to protect oneself and their communities from harmful influences. The presentation will be especially of value to decision-makers, researchers and other participants in public discourse who play a pivotal role in the constant flux of our informational landscapes.
