A research team from an Irish university, collaborating with Sparkle through the OCRE2024 program, set out to develop a PhD-level AI assistant in the form of a conversational chatbot for sports analytics. Designed to serve coaches, scouts, and players alike, this intelligent system can answer complex questions - from identifying fatigued players in real time, to scouting high-performing young talent, to delivering personalized performance insights. The solution combines multi-source data integration from wearables, video, and match statistics with advanced analytics such as predictive injury modeling, tactical analysis, and computer vision. Through natural language interaction, automated reporting, and smart alerts, the assistant transforms raw data into actionable insights. Built on scalable cloud infrastructure using Amazon Web Services and enhanced with third-party tools from the AWS Marketplace, the project is now evolving from academic research into a commercial startup - demonstrating how cutting-edge AI can redefine decision-making and performance in modern sports.
