Speaker
Description
The devotion to helping our clients in NRENs, to getting to know them and go above and beyond, is well known, and laudable. It’s arguably a core part of our success. But what happens when that goes too far, when heroics become the norm? This talk will briefly touch on some of the causes of this kind of behaviour, but the focus is to provide support on how to improve the situation and change practices. Sometimes things will happen that require the exceptional, but we should be striving and aiming for the ordinary, so that services operate and people can live their lives. We may need heroes now and again, but we should never want them!
What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?
Why encouraging heroics in the short term can lead to long term cultural issues. When might such heroics be acceptable and how to manage that. A number of supports and ideas on how to discuss this internally and put culture and practices in place to avoid the need for heroics and to mitigate against the worst impacts.
