Speakers

Frans Ward (SURF) Peter Eikelboom (SURF)

Description

Emerging standards - Verifiable Credentials, Open Badges 3.0, and the European Learning Model - combined with the EU Digital Identity Wallet are reshaping how learners own and share credentials. SURF, the Dutch NREN, is piloting this future through the Eduwallet project: a national testing ground integrating eduID, Edubadges, and wallet infrastructure across real education and labour-market use cases. This session includes a demonstration of the public Eduwallet Playground and explores how wallet-based credentialing reduces dependency on federated gatekeepers, positions NRENs as trust brokers, and lays the groundwork for eduCredentials - a next-generation platform designed for portable, interoperable, and privacy-respecting lifelong learning.
