Description

This talk is not about how "technology can" enable collaboration. It is about putting people first: How do "we actually want" to enable researchers, teachers, and learners to collaborate? Interpreting "Digital Sisu" as a call to action, we need to future-proof higher education institutions as spaces for critical thinking, community, and resilience. Currently, many developments, decisions, and innovations within our system are driven by technological change. The rapidly changing and partly disruptive nature of the internet of things, artificial intelligence, and tech leaves us repositioning ourselves. We are constantly negotiating between restriction and enablement. Our main concern is making the most of technological possibilities to enable researchers, teachers, and learners to collaborate. But when we rethink hybrid networks as an extension of physical space and an enabler of pedagogy and research, as David Radcliffe's PST-Framework does, we might not talk about what "technology can" do, but rather about how "we want" to use it.

What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?

The audience will gain a broader perspective on networks' responsibilities for democratic, resilient, and innovative institutions. Listeners will feel inspired to collaborate across disciplines and cultures in order to move beyond mere technical facilitation. They will feel empowered to open conversations with third parties and take intentional stances alongside a framework that is not common for HEIs' networks.

Are you a first time speaker at TNC? Yes
