Speaker
Description
The future of the NREN community is shaped not only by the fibre we deploy or the services we scale. Across many emerging NRENs, sustainability is often framed as an infrastructure challenge involving resilience, redundancy, funding, upgrades. These are critical conversations, but they are not complete.
What will the TNC audience take away from your talk?
The TNC audience will leave with a clear understanding that NREN sustainability is not only about infrastructure but about human awareness and engagement. Many NRENs, including ours, face challenges where university staff or budget holders question the network’s value, sometimes cutting funding, leaving users frustrated when services are withdrawn. My talk will show how visibility, storytelling, and deliberate engagement can turn everyday users into advocates and future operators.
Participants will gain actionable insights on creating deliberate entry points for students and researchers, fostering ambassadors who articulate the NREN’s value to decision-makers. They will see why technical excellence alone is insufficient and why raising awareness is a strategic priority for long-term resilience.
